MY PHOTOGRAPHY |
I bought my first digital camera in 2002 during my last semester of college. It was an Olympus C-3040. I think it cost $600 and is probably worth $6 today but it served me well. After that Annette gave me a Canon Powershot SD450. It was a great gift and we both still use it. I was given a budget by my school to buy a camera a few years ago and bought, with the advice of B&H, a digital SLR. I fell in love. I started taking a class taught by Richard Stromberg about five blocks from my old house. Now I'm teaching photography classes. I especially enjoy shooting sports, weddings, my students, my family, Chicago, abandonments, bands, and, well, just about anything. I prefer natural light but know how to use on and off camera lighting including speedlights and studio strobes. I enjoy experimenting with light by diffusing, bouncing, reflecting, and manipulating the light directed toward my subject. I prefer shooting and editing RAW files but have no problem getting my jpgs composed, exposed, and color balanced in the camera so editing is minimal. I aim to tell a story through my pictures while adding some creative shots and details along the way. |

WHAT I SHOOT WITH |
Paul Simon sang in Kodachrome, "I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph, momma don't take my Kodachrome away." He got two out of three things right. I have a Nikon and love to take photographs, but you can keep the Kodachrome. Kodachrome, and film in general, are dying. Nikon and digital photography are alive and flourishing. I love Nikon as you can see by the list below. Their cameras feel right in my hands, their lighting system is the best, and they are on a huge upswing in the photo community. I started my real photographic journey with Nikon and unless someone decides to buy me tens of thousands of dollars worth of Canon gear I'll be a Nikonian for life. |

DISCLAIMER |
A large portion of what I have photographed is online here. Some of these pictures date back more than five years so the quality may be less than what I currently can do. I now shoot with top quality equipment, have attended numerous photography classes, teach photography, and most importantly practice my craft all the time. I am contantly learning, trying new techniques, and am always striving to become a better photographer.
Some photo galleries have very simple passwords to keep unnecessary visitors and nosy students out. If you can't figure out the question it asks email me for the password. I have larger, higher resolution pictures of almost everything here without watermarks. If you would like a print or electronic copy, please email me. Also, let me know if there is something you do not like and think it should be removed.

DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS |
SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. Digital SLRs feature through-the-lens focus and metering, and the ability to interchange lenses. The versatility of being able to switch from macro lenses for extreme close-up photography, to telephoto lenses to capture images at great distance, and variable focal length zoom lenses, make digital SLRs the most popular kind of camera used by professionals and serious amateurs. |
