I've grossly neglected updating my website for years. You might see some newer photos taken for work, clients, or personal interest by going to any of these places:

ZZ TOP @ HOUSE OF BLUES CHICAGO
09/04/09

In preparation for shooting this show I downloaded some ZZ Top music and read up on the band. All three of the guys are 60 years old and the band was formed 40 years ago. How many 60 year olds do you know that rock out every night?
So there's this rule where photographers can only shoot the band for the first three songs. ZZ Top was no different and security was kicking everyone out from in front of the stage 12 minutes into the show. There are various reasons for this but I think it stinks. Here's what I shot in those first few minutes of the show. Not too bad for some 60 year olds and a photographer on a time limit.

WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 5
08/21/09

Shot my first boxing ever at UIC Pavilion. It was great shooing from ringside where you could hear the impact and see the sweat and blood fly. There was a 17 second knockout, a CPS teacher fighting, a guy that looks like Afro Thunder from the old Ready 2 Rumble boxing video game, and some good fights, too.

BURNHAM PAVILION IN CHICAGO'S MILLENNIUM PARK
08/05/09

In 1909 famed architect and urban planner Daniel Burnham created the Burnham Plan with the goal of moderizing Chicago's streets, parks, and buildings. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this plan this and one other temporary structure were built in Millennium Park. This structure was built by female and Iraqi born architect Zaha Hadid.

CHICAGO AT NIGHT
07/29/09

I went downtown with a buddy to take some photos. Here are a few that I took before we were told to leave by a security guard. The sculpture is called Flamingo by artist Alexander Calder. It is located in Chicago's Federal Plaza. The building directly behind the sculpture is a post office and that's the Sears Tower in the background.

These adorable and well behaved, at least while I was there, girls belong to my friend and coworker Michelle. I have a newfound respect for my friend and child photographer extraordinaire Shalimar who's advice and critique were invaluable before and after this shoot.

NASCAR @ CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY
07/11/09

I went to my first NASCAR race thanks to Bill & Laura. I had VIP treatment with access to the garages and pits. We even got to ride around the track in the pace car at 110 mph and attend the driver's prerace meeting. TV doesn't do NASCAR justice. Those cars are insanely fast and loud. It is also the most fan friendly sport. We watched the whole race from the pits with action going on all around us.

GARDEN OF THE GODS, ROYAL GORGE BRIDGE, & PHANTOM CANYON ROAD
06/15/09

We put a few miles on the Jeep sightseeing all over Colorado. Since Cory was delayed a day he was able to check out Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs before we put him on a plane. Bishop Castle was my idea and Royal Gorge Bridge was Cauwels' idea. Both were excellent choices. What neither of us expected but really enjoyed was the 20 plus mile trip on the all gravel Phantom Canyon Road with its sharp turns, extremely narrow sections, and steep dropoffs.

BISHOP CASTLE
06/15/09

One man, Jim Bishop, has been building this castle by hand for the past 40 years. It is basically an open construction site with a million ways to hurt yourself. When I was there I remember I kept saying amazing and unbelievable. I went to the top of both spires as you'll see from the photos. He is still working on it and is currently working on a moat and drawbridge.

ROCKFORD BOYS RANCHING IN COLORADO
06/12-14/09

Billy, Cauwels, Cory, and I went to Apache Creek Ranch in Rye, Colorado for our annual camping trip. We camped in the middle of a cattle pasture, helped brand and castrate the calves, took target practice, and acted like fools. I'll be posting more photos from our road trip soon. Be aware that the photo gallery shows photos of branding and castration as well as overall stupidity.

THE STEEPWATER BAND @ THE METRO
06/05/09

Their lighting sucked but the band definitely does not. I now have 3 of their CDs.
I've waivered back and forth on which type of gallery to put up. Should I continue to put all my photos on my site in galleries or just put them on Flickr? Here's both. Which one do you like better?

FOURTH OF JULY IN ROCKFORD
07/04/09

I had a wonderful time on the Fourth of July with my family. Once the rain stopped, we took Lon's boat out to Rock Cut and fished for a few hours. It's been such a long time that I forgot how relaxing and enjoyable a day of fishing can be.
That evening Annette and I went dowtown Rockford and watched the fireworks from State Street Bridge. These photos were my first ever attempt at shooting fireworks. All were taken with the camera on a tripod, camera in full manual mode, with a cable release.

HAMMOND SCHOOL GRADUATION
06/21/09

The only photos I seem to get posted here anymore are school/work related. Seeing how I currently have a busted up right wrist and I am trying to keep the camera in the bag for a few weeks while it heals I might just get a chance to get caught up on editing and posting some photos. Problem is typing is difficult with a bad right paw. The good news is I'm ambidextrous with a mouse so I can still do most things on the computer.
I currently have Kearns's wedding, band photos shot at the Metro, and my trip to Colorado that are priorities. I also have my trip to Mexico from a few months ago I haven't touched along with lots of urban exploration and a few other things that hopefully I'll be motivated to sort through this summer. Before I do any of that I'm in the process of redoing my photo cataloging/backup system which I should have done in a couple of days.
I hustled at the end of the school year to get photos of all the last week events online. Check them out and take a look back soon for all the photos I listed above.

With the help of my good friend Shalimar B, I took kindergarten graduation portraits for my school, Hammond Elementary. I love the catch light in their eyes.
